If you rank high in the search engines, then you have probably done extensive research, have paid an SEO expert to do it, or are just plain lucky. Having good ranking in the search engines can give your business a great boost and makes it an extremely great experience for your company. If you have a good ranking on a particular search engine, then you have increased web traffic on your website making it a readily accessible site for the internet public at large.

If you are ranked well on the search engine, it will surely add to your market of products and services. Here are a few suggestions that should help you in increasing the web traffic to your website and making it easier for everyone to find.

5 SEO Tips to Get You Started

  1. Come up with a relevant keyword that suits the style and content of your website. Thus include relevant keywords throughout your article. Generally SEO specialists are very impatient and routinely revise their efforts in sorting out searches through keywords. In this way keywords should be created as specific to your title as possible. Also do not make your titles with keywords too long that it makes difficult for any kind of search to take place.
  2. Avoid over using your keyword. Keep them as interesting as possible so that they are catchy and have some sort of relevance attached to them as well, otherwise your content will look highly unnatural. This means retaining proper keyword density. You should also use synonyms for different keywords use. People would put the same word they are trying to search for in different ways.
  3. Use headings and subheadings. Search engines also give more preference to headings and sub heading as compared to the general text of the body. Rather than simply using a bold font, try assigning  the sentence as an “H2” or “Heading 2” and use “H3” or “Heading 3” for sub-headings. These headings should also contain the relevant keywords. To see an example of how headings are used, look above this list and find “5 SEO Tips to Get You Started”. In this short post I elected not to use subheadings.
  4. Increase the number of one-way links to your site. You should always have lesser number of reciprocal links in your web page. A reciprocal link is the one when you put a link to someone else’s page on your page and vice versa. The reason for having lesser number of such links is that people start trading links with anyone in exchange for a link and that’s how you end up with hundreds and thousands of links with so many different categories which are eventually of no value to your website.
  5. Have relevant content on each page. You should always ensure that the information that you write on your website is interesting enough and is relevant to the people who get to read it. Having relevant and proper content on your website is the best thing that you can do to market your site on a search engine. Thus be specific and informative on your web page for others who get to extract benefit out of it.

Using these techniques will help, but remember there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to search engine optimization. Consider setting an annual budget and plan on promoting and updating your website on a regular basis. Need help? I’d be more than happy to discuss your off-page and on-page SEO at your convenience. Good stuff! I’d like to add that with the recent release of Googles’ caffeine, there is a bigger emphasis on latent semantic indexing. I stumbled across something which is fairly new the other day.

If you do a search in Google, on the left sidebar is something called a “link wheel”. By clicking on it, Google is basically telling you how to set up your web site with keywords based on LSI.
